How We Lived the French Way at the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma

Have you ever wondered what it means to “Live the French Way?” We were lucky enough to find out at the grand opening of the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma. Located in the heart of Mexico City’s historic Reforma avenue, the hotel allows you to experience chic, French style while submerging yourself in the vibrant and lively Mexican culture. Let us take you through our trip…

We started off by getting lunch at Balta, located inside the hotel. They offer tapas and shared dishes but with a gourmet flare. From octopus to char-grilled steak to prawn, we feasted like we’d never eaten before.

Then, we made our way up to our gorgeous suite overlooking Mexico’s capital. The décor is fresh and modern, a perfect juxtaposition to the city’s historic architecture and heritage.

After relaxing for a bit, it was already time for dinner. We headed straight for Bajel, also in the hotel. It was experimental cuisine at it’s finest. Unexpected, unique flavors were combined in every dish, and each was visually stunning (the fish was a highlight). Not to mention, they have an insane collection of tequila to choose from. It was a very special dinner. If you ever visit make sure to check out the Cityzen Bar which overlooks the city from the rooftop!

The next day we headed into Mexico City to do some exploring. The hotel is steps away from iconic monuments like the Angel of Independence and the Castle of Chapultepec. After picking up breakfast at Balta, we stopped by an outdoor art-viewing put on by the hotel to promote their opening. They chose several Mexican artists to create four murals around the city that represent the integration of French and Mexican culture (since they’re a French hotel in Mexico City). Check out our Instagram highlights of this trip (CDMX) to see the murals – they’re beautiful.

That night, we met up with other influencers in the area to officially celebrate the opening of the hotel at the La Nuit Party. The Sofitel went all out to make this event one to remember. It ended with a firework show that we could actually see IN the hotel because the room had a glass ceiling. Incredible.

The next day, we treated ourselves to breakfast at the hotel because we heard such great things about their extensive spread. Then, we ventured out to the Frida Kahlo Museum and Palacio Postal. We ended our trip with a spa day at the hotel – they’ve partnered with L’Occitane to create the most serene and calming atmosphere with striking views of the city.  We chose a couple’s massage and a dip in their luxurious 38th-floor pool. It was just what we needed to revitalize, rest, and recharge before heading home the next day.

It’s no secret we’ve stayed at a lot of hotels. This one thoroughly impressed us; we’d head back there in a minute. It offered the perfect combination of modern elegance and history. If you’re headed to Mexico City or thinking about where to go next, you should seriously consider the Sofitel.
